xFarm Technologies, a Swiss agri-food technology company, has announced the acquisition of Sibium Analytics, a Brazilian provider of geospatial data and business intelligence serving the sugarcane and biofuel sectors. The move represents xFarm's deepest strategic push into Latin America to date, bringing the company into one of the world's most economically significant agricultural supply chains. This marks xFarm's sixth acquisition overall and its second Brazilian deal in less than twelve months, following the 2025 integration of Checkplant. The transaction received backing from both existing shareholders and BlackRock, entering as a new investor.

Why sugarcane, and why now

Brazil leads global production in soybeans, sugarcane, and coffee, cultivating between 75 and 80 million hectares across its agricultural landscape. The agribusiness sector alone contributes more than a quarter of the nation's gross domestic product. Sugarcane occupies a pivotal position within this economy, supplying both food manufacturing and Brazil's renewable fuel industry, which produces approximately 36.8 billion liters of ethanol and 21,218 GWh of bioelectricity annually.

Sibium brings 8 million tracked hectares into xFarm's operations—representing roughly 70 percent of Brazil's total sugarcane output—alongside more than 15 years of industry-specific knowledge. The company's technology offerings span Sigma, a satellite remote sensing and crop mapping tool; Ambium, an ESG and carbon-intensity auditing platform; and Data View, an agro-environmental business intelligence dashboard. When combined with xFarm's existing reach across corn, soy, cotton, coffee, citrus, and grapes throughout Brazil, the combined entity now functions as a unified data provider covering nearly all major crops in the country.

What changes for customers

The integration aims to enhance rather than disrupt operations for both organizations' client bases:

  • Sibium's customer base—primarily sugarcane mills and biofuel production facilities—will gain entry to xFarm's IoT infrastructure, including localized weather monitoring stations, field-level sensors, and machine learning-driven Decision Support Systems for operational management and supply chain projection.
  • xFarm's current customers across all crop types will access Sibium's remote-sensing capabilities and ESG and traceability features, which xFarm states will accelerate sustainability certifications and supply chain risk assessment throughout Latin America.
  • Large-scale partners in food, finance, and insurance sectors will obtain a single verifiable data source spanning multiple crops and multiple nations—a proposition specifically designed for enterprises managing ESG and traceability obligations across their operations.

xFarm Chief Executive Matteo Vanotti characterized the acquisition as another advancement toward "world-class data-driven decision-making" throughout the complete agricultural value chain. Sibium Director Ronaldo Marani characterized the integration as a "natural evolution" for his organization, emphasizing the opportunity to extend services to additional crop types via xFarm's comprehensive ecosystem.

The bigger picture

Following this transaction, xFarm reports supporting more than 600,000 farms spanning 24 million hectares worldwide. The company has pursued an aggressive acquisition strategy since completing its €36 million Series C funding round in October 2024, which included participation from Partech, Mouro Capital, and United Ventures among others. During 2024, xFarm absorbed Spain's Greenfield Technologies and France's SpaceSense, followed by Brazil's Checkplant in 2025.

The acquisition pattern demonstrates xFarm's strategy of purchasing its way into vertical and geographic expansion rather than constructing capabilities from the ground up in each crop category or geographic market. The company is betting that the agricultural data sector prioritizes scale and comprehensive coverage over narrow specialization.
