A Finnish defence technology startup has closed a seed round with backing from a Swedish venture capital specialist. Creoir, headquartered in Oulu, received investment from Gungnir Capital, a Stockholm-based fund focused on early-stage defence and resilience ventures across Europe. The company builds voice-controlled AI systems tailored for military and other mission-critical settings, with two core offerings: EdgeVUI, a voice interface for hands-free control, and Operator Assistant, an AI-driven knowledge system. Both products operate entirely on local hardware without requiring cloud infrastructure, making them suitable for offline deployment in security-sensitive environments.
Creoir's technology addresses a specific operational challenge: personnel managing sophisticated defence systems—including command centres, combat platforms, vehicles, sonar equipment and communications gear—operate under severe time pressure and cognitive strain. The company's voice-first approach frees operators' hands and attention, enabling them to issue commands and retrieve critical data through natural language interaction. Because the systems function without internet connectivity and are engineered for high-noise, security-restricted settings, they fill a gap where traditional cloud-dependent solutions cannot operate.
The startup is already embedded in projects with major European defence contractors. Saab, Leidos, and ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) are among the established primes and integrators currently working with Creoir. The company traces its roots to 2012, when its founding team—drawn from Nokia's legacy in embedded systems and wireless engineering—established operations in Oulu.
Creoir intends to deploy the seed capital toward bringing EdgeVUI and Operator Assistant to market, expanding shipments to current and prospective defence clients across Europe, and advancing the technology toward broader operational use.
