The two defencetech companies have moved beyond initial joint manufacturing to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership focused on unmanned land warfare. ARX Robotics, based in Germany, and Ukrainian firm Roboneers signed their agreement in Kyiv during a weekend visit that included Chancellor Friedrich Merz and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Their collaboration now encompasses system integration and coordinated development work, building on existing success in supplying ground drones to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The two firms previously established a production joint venture called ARX Industries in June 2026 to manufacture the Rys Pro UGV across both Ukraine and Germany.
Marc Wietfeld, Chief Executive of ARX Robotics, emphasized the strategic importance of their approach: "Together with Roboneers, we provide the Ukrainian forces with a robust but smart UGV fleet at scale and at the same time ensure that the lessons learnt from the battlefield are incorporated into the land systems development of other Western armies."
The scale of anticipated demand underscores the urgency of this partnership. Ukraine's government has projected a requirement for 50,000 unmanned ground systems during 2026, reflecting the central role these platforms now play in modern warfare.
ARX Robotics operates the largest fleet of Western-manufactured ground drones currently deployed in Ukraine through its Gereon platform. The company has demonstrated production capacity through partnerships with major German industrial players including Deutz, enabling rapid scaling of manufacturing to meet substantial volume requirements.
