Magentic, which builds AI-powered digital workers for the industrial sector, has closed an $18 million Series A round led by Felicis Ventures. The funding, announced a year after the company's launch, also drew backing from returning investors Sequoia Capital and The Westly Group.
The startup's multi-agent systems operate through tools already embedded in manufacturing environments—Microsoft Teams, email and internal company platforms—to handle procurement and operational tasks. These autonomous agents can oversee complete workflows spanning supplier evaluation and selection, contract negotiation, order management and invoice processing. Magentic serves both indirect procurement needs and direct spending on raw materials and manufacturing inputs.
The company is positioning itself to address industrial and procurement teams grappling with mounting workloads as manufacturing demand rises while trade tensions and budget constraints intensify. Magentic's approach acknowledges the reality of global manufacturing operations: sprawling technology stacks combining legacy enterprise systems, spreadsheets and modern tools, alongside the management of billions of data points and substantial procurement budgets.
Robin Van Aeken, CEO and co-founder, framed the opportunity in these terms:
The physical world is dealing with the biggest capex cycle in history, driven by AI demand, during a time of trade disruption and geopolitical challenges. The companies that build the best intelligence into every decision they make will be the ones that compound their competitive advantage.
Robin Van Aeken, CEO and co-founder of Magentic
Enterprise security remains central to Magentic's platform design. The system incorporates zero-data-retention agreements with major AI providers, flexibility across different cloud environments and the ability to run isolated deployments within specific data regions.
Odhran O'Donoghue, the company's CTO and co-founder, emphasized the technical challenge of deploying advanced AI in physical-world contexts:
We're building AI that can diagnose problems, plan the fixes, take action, and see work through across gigabytes and terabytes of multimodal data at once.
Odhran O'Donoghue, CTO and co-founder of Magentic
The capital will fuel development of Magentic's agent capabilities, broaden the platform's reach into additional procurement and supply chain domains, and support research into AI systems capable of solving complex optimization challenges across industrial operations.
