The initiative merges cutting-edge counter-drone technology developed in Ukraine with the manufacturing capabilities of Quantum Systems, addressing Russia's growing arsenal of sophisticated aerial weapons. German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz unveiled a major financing commitment for multiple tens of thousands of interceptor drones manufactured by Quantum Systems destined for Ukraine, announced as part of Berlin's winter 2026/2027 military support programme.

Quantum Systems designs unmanned aerial systems and multi-sensor data collection platforms serving defence, government, and commercial sectors. The company's electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft support operations across defence, security, humanitarian, and geospatial domains, drawing on nearly a decade of expertise in unmanned systems, robotics, and imagery technology.

During March, Quantum Systems took an investment stake in WIY Drones, a Ukrainian manufacturer specialising in interceptor, reconnaissance, and strike unmanned vehicles alongside ground control infrastructure. The interceptor platforms, engineered by Quantum WIY Industries' Ukrainian team, function to defend urban centres, civilian infrastructure, and vital facilities against drone strikes, operating within Quantum Systems' MOSAIC UXS software environment.

Ukraine confronts an intensifying aerial challenge, particularly from faster, jet-engine-powered Russian attack drones, creating urgent demand for counter-drone systems deployable across large territories. Manufacturing will take place inside Ukraine, ramping up production of interceptor systems already deployed operationally as requirements for anti-drone technology accelerate.

The manufacturing partnership sits within Quantum Systems' expanding German-Ukrainian production ecosystem, encompassing Quantum Frontline Industries, Quantum WIY Industries, and Quantum Tencore Industries. This approach pairs Ukrainian combat experience with German manufacturing strength to expand systems for Ukraine while establishing production foundations benefiting Germany and allied nations. During their Kyiv visit, Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Katherina Reiche engaged with Quantum Systems leadership, receiving briefings on wartime production methods, personnel training, operational assistance, and the scaling of unmanned systems manufacturing across Ukraine.

Sven Kruck, Co-CEO of Quantum Systems, stated:

Ukraine needs interceptor drones at industrial scale. By expanding production in Ukraine, we can respond faster to the immediate threat while building an industrial capability that will also strengthen Germany and its allies.

For QWI, this project is an opportunity to combine our engineering expertise with our partners' industrial capabilities and scale production in Ukraine. Our priority is to get more interceptors into the hands of Ukrainian defenders, faster. We will continue to improve our systems based on feedback from the units using them and build production capacity that can adapt quickly as threats evolve.

Sven Kruck, Co-CEO of Quantum Systems

At an Industry Round Table convening Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Quantum Systems and Fire Point executed a Memorandum of Understanding targeting collaborative development of emerging technologies for unmanned platforms and defences against advanced aerial systems.

Since 2022, Quantum Systems has strengthened its operational footprint across Ukraine, maintaining a workforce of several hundred personnel within the country. The company maintains direct partnerships with Ukrainian defence forces, embedding frontline insights into its engineering and product refinement processes.
